I have found my new tone and title!!
I'm so excited!! The new title is "To My Catholic Children" and I'm going to post little things about why it's important to me that we're Catholic, why we homeschool, homeschooling plans and progress, family recipes, etc. I think it will be great for me to shift my focus to a place outside myself. Simmering in my own rambling thoughts while home all day isn't a very healthful venture.

boring posts for saturday

Hello all! Do you ever assess the upcoming weekend, find it boringly calm, make plans to go to Confession and then have to play party pooper because a billion and one plans crop up out of the blue that threaten to occur within that small hour of time your church sets aside for the sacrament? It seems to happen to me every.single.time. Luckily, today I think the new plans will still accommodate my old ones. It's still too early to tell.
A wise friend of mine suggested that instead of changing the title of my blog altogether I should just start a series called "Shared Thoughts". The idea is that since I don't ever find the time to write the thoughtful posts I'd like to write (reference my Coming Attractions list in the sidebar - oh! no longer there) that when I come across those same sentiments written by another I will share them here. So, look for that soon. (And thank you to everyone that left comments about the title change.)
Speaking of that wise friend, we began joking lately that if we were both on a bus we would never go anywhere. We'd be all "I think we should start the bus" and "That's a fabulous idea! You're so smart." and "No, you're the smart one, really." pause "I think we should start the bus." "Ah! You're so smart!" ad nauseum.
Anyway, folks, a full day is planned in the Farias household today. Hope you all have a great Saturday and a blessed weekend.

7 Quick Takes Friday

1. I find that I'm a very indecisive person. Well, maybe not. At any rate, it unsettles me and I desire to be different.
2. Bangs gone bad. My long bangs became short bangs this week and it's unfortunate that I paid five dollars for the damage. I can't blame the stylist too much, though, as my toddler and four-year old were afoot.
3. We've had such beautiful weather this week. We cut back significantly on lessons to enjoy it. I'm sure we'll catch up on academics when the weather turns too cold for outdoor activity and then too hot again some months after.
4. I am leaning towards changing the tone of my blog. I like the new title "Shared Thoughts". I think "I Hate Socks" is funny. I like trying to be funny. It does appear a bit abrasive to me, though. It's the Hate part, I think. Maybe the Socks. I'm indecisive about it.
I've been considering this for a while, this changing-the-tone bidness, but the idea became more real when a good friend mentioned Philippians 4:8 to me:
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable -- if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-- think about these things.
At any rate, consider this your warning that you may see a new title in your readers very soon.
5. I have prayed the Rosary every weekday for the past two weeks. I must confess to not "getting it". However, I have a sneaking suspicion my heart has been softening towards my daily duties. The ones which I've been strongly resenting, to the point of tears, for the last month or two. Perhaps I'm getting something more than I thought from this devotion. I hope I'm giving something as well when I offer the prayers up.
6. My toddler (21 months old) has the most fabulous brown golden-tipped curls . If he'd stay still long enough I would take a nap in them.
7. There's a lot of talk about Maine and gay marriage this week. In my real day-to-day life, I have a gay uncle that's been with his partner since I was very young. They chain smoke, chain drink coffee, wear short shorts, and give really great hugs.
I have a girlfriend who is expecting twins with her gay partner. They have one daughter already. They cannot live in certain states because the laws may not recognize her partner as a parent if something happened to her. The children, however, will totally recognize her partner as their parent. I will be taking this couple meals and all that I would do for any other friend with a new baby.
I'm not going anywhere with this except to say that I left a message with our local chapter of Courage concerning how a straight person like myself can be a supporter of their ministry. I'm waiting to hear back.

today I'm thankful for...
- a new recipe to try for dinner
- a trip to the haircutter's that ended the exact moment I began wishing it was done
- the only children needing to take a bath because of haircuts are the ones that can bathe and dress themselves
- beautiful weather that allows us to go for a walk through our neighborhood's trails
- an evening out with girlfriends, even if only a short one
- blogging friends that accept me for me
- a long, unscheduled, "boring" day because that means nothing is wrong in our little bit of the world right now
- beautiful fall weather here in southish Texas
- healthy children
- a handsome husband ;)
- a beautifully decorated blog that I love to look at. just look.
- a late cup of coffee to keep me awake for my evening out and my after-evening at home
